A romping 9 1/2-length triumph in the Rachel Alexandra on February 22 was
more than enough to convince horseplayers to bet Untapable (#23) down as the 5-1
favorite during Churchill Downs’ only Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (KOFW).
The Steve Asmussen filly opened her career with a pair of nice wins under the
Twin Spires, including the Pocahontas, but closed out her juvenile campaign with
a well-beaten eighth following trouble in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and
a third-place run in the Hollywood Starlet. Untapable was given a 2 1/2-month
freshening before making her sophomore bow at Fair Grounds in the Rachel
Alexandra.
Likely next on the bay Tapit filly’s schedule is the Grade 2, $400,000 Fair
Grounds Oaks on March 29, coincidentally enough on the same day as owner Ron
Winchell’s birthday.
The mutuel field (#24), or “All Others” wagering interest, also closed at 5-1
but will payout $1.60 more than Untapable for a $2 wager.
Silverbulletday heroine Unbridled Forever (#22, 8-1) and unbeaten dual Grade
2 victress Onlyforyou (#12, 9-1) were the only other wagering interests to close
at single digit odds.
After the KOFW closed, Awesome Baby (#3) pulled off a 2 3/4-length,
front-running victory in the Santa Ysabel at Santa Anita Park. She remained even
with her morning-line odds of 30-1 in the wager.

Regretfully, the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager
pool closed Saturday at 4:45 p.m. (EST), 30 minutes after the Kentucky
Derby Future Wager Pool 3 closed, due to an internal miscommunication. It
was published to close at 6 p.m. in a news release on Monday and other
communication channels throughout the week.
The official program header was
published later in the week with a closing time of 4:45 p.m.
