Oaks candidates Kiss Moon, Euphrosyne work at Churchill

Last updated: 4/21/14 2:35 PM

Kentucky Oaks candidate Kiss Moon worked five furlongs in 1:00 3/5 at
Churchill Downs under Julien Leparoux after the Monday morning renovation break for trainer David
Vance.

Working on her own and without the blinkers she wore in the runner-up effort
to Sugar Shock in the Fantasy at Oaklawn Park, Kiss Moon reeled off
fractions of  :12 1/5, :24 1/5 and :36 2/5 while galloping out six furlongs
in 1:13 4/5.

“She only ran two weeks ago and I didn’t want her
to do too much,” Vance said. “I was happy with the work and probably will come
back next Sunday for her last work before the Oaks.”

Euphrosyne, listed as “possible” for
the Oaks, breezed five furlongs in the company of a workmate in 1:02 1/5. Abel
Flores was aboard the daughter of Harlan’s Holiday, who covered the distance in
fractional splits of :13, :25 4/5 and :38
and galloped out six furlongs in 1:16.

Euphrosyne, who finished third in the Fantasy last time, previously finished
second in the Martha Washington and then was elevated to first on the
disqualification of Sugar Shock in the Honeybee, all at Oaklawn.

As for Fantasy winner Sugar Shock, trainer Doug Anderson said the filly would
probably would work “an easy five-eighths” with new rider Calvin Borel scheduled
to be aboard.

In other Kentucky Oaks news:

Grade 1 winner Sweet Reason has not been
ruled out of the Kentucky Oaks picture that would require a couple of defections
to land a spot in the starting gate.

“I am probably leaning in a different direction because
I didn’t think there was a possibility of getting in,” trainer Leah Gyarmati
said of Sweet Reason, who is at Belmont Park. “I would not rule it out now if
there is a chance.”

Winner of last year’s Spinaway at Saratoga, Sweet Reason finished a distant
third in the Gazelle at Aqueduct in her only stakes appearance this season.

Trainer Allen Jerkens said he “does not plan to come” to
Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Oaks with House Rules, the runner-up in the
Davona Dale and Gulfstream Oaks.

House Rules, who had been No. 12 on the Kentucky Oaks leader board, is likely
to point for the $750,000 Acorn at Belmont Park on June 7.
