Multiple Grade 2 sprint star Munnings was represented by his first winner
Saturday when Natural Order captured his debut in England. Trained by Karl Burke
for Hubert John Strecker, the Kentucky-bred prevailed by a head in a maiden at
Doncaster.
Natural Order was bred by Chelston and visited the Keeneland sales ring
twice. After bringing $25,000 as a November weanling, the chestnut went to Lars
Kelp Bloodstock for $65,000 as a September yearling.
The juvenile colt is the first registered foal from the winning Giant’s
Causeway mare Allure d’Amour, who is a half-sister to Secret Admirer, currently
a multiple stakes-placed sophomore in France. Natural Order’s second dam is
multiple Group 2-placed stakes heroine Salut d’Amour, a half-sister to Group 3
winner Regime from the immediate family of One Thousand Guineas demotee
Jacqueline Quest.
Under Daniel Tudhope, Natural Order recovered from a tardy start to stalk the
pace, struck the front in deep stretch, and edged Flying Machine. He covered
five furlongs on good to soft ground in 1:00 4/5.
Natural Order holds early entries in the July 19 Weatherbys Super Sprint at
Newbury, the September 11 Hamilton Insurance Stakes back at Doncaster and the
October 4 Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar.
Munnings, who placed in the 2008 Hopeful and Champagne in his juvenile
season, developed into a top sprinter. In 2009, the so of Speightstown romped in
the Woody Stephens, defeated older horses in the Tom Fool Handicap, and placed
in the Haskell, King’s Bishop and Vosburgh. The highlights of his brief 2010
campaign were a victory in the Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship and a third
in the Carter Handicap, and he retired with a record of 14-4-2-5, $742,640.
His full sibling is the obviously-named Munnings Sister, a multiple stakes
winner and Grade 2-placed in her own right. Their half-sibling, the unraced
Gaudete, produced Group 2-placed Snowboarder.
Munnings is out of the unraced Holy Bull mare La Comete, a daughter of Grade
1 queen and noted broodmare La Gueriere, who is responsible for Grade 1 victress
Icon Project and multiple Grade 2-winning sire Lasting Approval. This is the
all-star family of Gallic legend Allez France. Also in this female line is the
deceased Master Command, sire of Kentucky Derby runner Commanding Curve in his
final crop.
The eight-year-old stallion stands at Coolmore’s North American arm, Ashford
near Versailles, Kentucky, for $10,000, stands and nurses.
