Grade 1 winner Warrior’s Reward recorded his first two winners as a sire on
Friday. The filly Liatris, a half-sister to English Group 2 winner Moviesta,
captured her debut in the
2ND race at Pimlico against males going 4 1/2
furlongs, winning by 3 3/4 lengths over 7-5 favorite Guderian in a time of :59
1/5 for five furlongs on a good track. She is owned by Charles Hall and trainer
Jann Anderson, and was ridden by Victor Carrasco.
A little more than an hour later, the filly Unbridled Reward captured her
debut by 7 3/4 lengths in the
1ST race at Churchill Downs. The 3-5 favorite, who
covered 4 1/2 furlongs in :52 2/5 on a sloppy track, is owned by John Oxley,
trained by Mark Casse, and was ridden by Alan Garcia.
Warrior’s Reward, who raced for A. Stevens Miles Jr. and was trained by Ian
Wilkes, earned his only stakes win in the 2010 Carter Handicap at Aqueduct,
winning by a nose over Musket Man. The son of Medaglia d’Oro placed three times
in graded company as a three-year-old in 2009 — the Jim Dandy at Saratoga,
Dwyer at Belmont Park and Northern Dancer at Churchill Downs — and placed in
two of his final five starts following the 2010 Carter, finishing second in the
Churchill Downs and third in the Phoenix at Keeneland. He retired with a mark of
17-4-5-2, $565,716.
Bred in Kentucky by Jayeff B Stables, was produced by For All You Do, a
daughter of Seeking the Gold, and was sold for $180,000 as a Keeneland September
yearling. This is the family of English champion filly and Irish classic winner
Forest Flower, multiple Grade 1 winner High Yield and multiple Grade 2 queen
Miss Golden Circle.
Warrior’s Reward stands for a fee of $12,500 at Spendthrift Farm near
Lexington, Kentucky.
