Reynaldo Perez’s It’s Free overcame a troubled trip in Sunday’s

6TH
race at Gulfstream Park, becoming the first winner sired by Grade 1
sprint star Majesticperfection.

Fourth in his debut at Calder May 18, It’s Free was dismissed at odds of 26-1
in this second attempt. The Roderick Rodriguez juvenile got off to an
inauspicious start, hitting the gate and bumping with Social Media. Recovering
to chase the pace, It’s Free then had to wait for running room on the far turn.
Jockey Abdiel Jaen guided him through on the inside, and It’s Free gamely
responded to overtake Social Media and prevail by a neck. The dark bay colt
completed the 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight on the fast track in :53 1/5.

It’s Free was bred in Florida by Rick Sutherland. He is the second registered
foal, and first runner, produced by the Grand Slam mare Princess Quinn. She is
herself a daughter of Grade 3-winning sprinter Gold Princess.

Majesticperfection was unraced until his four-year-old season in 2010, but
rapidly made up for lost time by developing into one of the nation’s elite
sprinters. After a third in his belated unveiling for Steve Asmussen, he never
lost again, compiling a five-race winning spree, all in wire-to-wire fashion.
Majesticperfection started his streak in an off-the-turf maiden at Fair Grounds,
conquered an Oaklawn Park allowance by 10 3/4 lengths, and dominated an
allowance at Churchill Downs.

Ready to tackle stakes company, Majesticperfection shipped to Prairie Meadows
for the Iowa Sprint Handicap and promptly broke the track record in a romp. He
set torrid fractions of :21 2/5, :43 2/5 and :55 en route to finishing six
furlongs in a dazzling 1:07 1/5.

Majesticperfection stepped up to the Grade 1 level in the Alfred G.
Vanderbilt at Saratoga and again passed his class test with flying colors.
Leading throughout, he had a comfortable 2 3/4-lengths to spare over Big Drama,
who flattered him by later capturing the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

Unfortunately, Majesticperfection had been retired by then. He sustained a
condylar fracture to his right front leg following a workout at Saratoga,
underwent surgery, and called it a career. He earned $310,430 from his 6-5-0-1
line.

By the successful sire Harlan’s Holiday, who died last year,
Majesticperfection is out of the unraced Wavering Monarch mare Act So Noble. He
descends from the family of French champion sprinter Double Form and Argentinean
champion two-year-old filly Miss Nymph.

Majesticperfection’s speed runs deep in the maternal line. His fifth dam,
*Primavera, captured the 1951 Queen Mary, as had his seventh dam, Arabella, in
1928. His ninth dam is the legendary racemare Pretty Polly, winner of the One
Thousand Guineas and Oaks who completed the “Fillies’ Triple Crown” by beating
colts in the 1904 St Leger.

The eight-year-old stallion stands at Airdrie Stud near Midway, Kentucky, for
$10,000, live foal.
