Churchill
Downs Inc. (CDI) and the
Jockeys’ Guild
announced they have reached a three-year agreement on CDI’s support of the Guild
and its member jockeys.
While terms of the agreement were not disclosed, CDI agreed to continue to
contribute funds to Jockeys’ Guild to help jockeys who are members of the Guild
and ride in the United States. CDI tracks included as part of the deal are
Churchill Downs, Arlington and Fair Grounds.
“This agreement continues our strong support of the Jockey’s Guild and the
jockeys who compete not only at our facilities, but across the country. We look
forward to further building on our positive relationship with both The Guild and
our jockeys to better ensure the well-being and safety of these talented
athletes,” said Bill Carstanjen, CDI President and Chief Operating Officer.
“We are pleased with the renewal of the agreement with CDI and the furthering
of our working relationship with CDI and each of its Thoroughbred racetracks.
The funds from this Industry Partnership agreement will be used to provide
necessary benefits, including life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment
insurance and temporary disability to our active members, as well as life
insurance and aid to our permanently disabled members,” said Terry Meyocks,
National Manager of the Jockeys’ Guild.
“We also use these funds to provide the active, qualifying jockeys who
regularly ride at CDI racetracks with supplemental health care reimbursements.
It is vital that the Guild receives similar support from all of the racetracks
so that we can continue to provide these, along with other benefits, to our
members. We believe that this agreement also allows for opportunities for the
Guild and CDI to work together to promote our industry.”
