Hillwood Stable acquired the top two sellers at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic
Fall Yearling Sale at Timonium, Maryland on Monday.
Hip No. 29, a Flatter colt consigned by Northview Stallion Station (David
Wade), agent, led the way at $260,000. The Maryland-bred is a son of stakes
winner American Victory (Victory Gallop), a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed
producer Who’s Cozy (Cozzene). Both were reared by Grade 2 queen Who Did It and
Run (Polish Numbers).
Also hailing from this family is Hangover Kid (Lemon Drop Kid), winner of
this year’s Bowling Green H. (G2), as well as Grade 3 winners Surely Royal
(*Young Emperor) and Truly a Judge (Judge T C).
Hillwood also secured a Pure Prize filly for $200,000. Dark Hollow Farm,
agent, consigned the Maryland-bred, who toured the ring as Hip 180.
The yearling was produced by 2004 Iowa Oaks (G3) winner He Loves Me (Not for
Love), a full sister to Grade 2-placed multiple stakes winner For Kisses. Both
were reared by the Grade 3-winning Palliser Bay (Frosty the Snowman).
This extended family is also responsible for Grade 1 victor M One Rifle (One
Man Army).
At the conclusion of trading, 275 yearlings sold for $6,023,900, a decline of
19.4 percent from last year’s sale, which grossed $7,469,900 from the sale of
275 yearlings. The average dropped 15.3 percent, from $25,847 to $21,905, while
the median plunged 41.2 percent, from $17,000 to $10,000.
