Plesa reels in juvenile stakes at Monmouth

Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Colossal took the field gate-to-wire for his
third win in a row in Sunday’s $101,000
Sapling Stakes for two-year-olds at
Monmouth Park as the even-money favorite.

Souper Colossal broke his maiden in his racing debut here on June 7 and was
exiting his stakes bow in the Tyro Stakes at this venue in a race that was taken
off the turf on August 3. The bay colt grabbed $60,000 for his second stakes
victory to increase his career earnings to $117,000.

The Eddie Plesa Jr. charge broke from the outside post and cut in front of
his competition, as jockey Paco Lopez angled him immediately to the rail. Souper
Colossal posted fractions of :23 2/5, :47 2/5 and 1:11 4/5 while cruising in the
stretch to a to a 5 1/2-length score.

In the companion race for two-year-old fillies, Laurie Plesa and Vincent
Rizzuto’s Concealedwithakiss stepped up off a 11-length maiden claiming win to
wire the $77,500
Sorority Stakes.

The Eddie Plesa Jr. pupil reeled off fractions of :22 1/5 and :45 1/5 on her
way to a two-length victory. Coco’s Wildcat, the 2-1 favorite, chased the
eventual winner all the way around the track, but could not make up any ground
and had to settle for runner-up.

Concealedwithakiss covered six-furlongs in 1:11 2/5 over the fast main track
with Angel Serpa up. Sent off as the 6-1 fifth choice, the gray paid $15.40 for
the victory and banked $45,000 to boost her bankroll to $57,540 from two starts.
