The Breeders’ Cup announced
Friday that legendary
guitarist Richie Sambora will sing and perform the national anthem for the 2014
Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park on November 1.
Airing live on NBC Sports’ telecast of the Breeders’ Cup, Sambora’s performance
will include a special charity component this year for
City of Hope, offering
one lucky fan a race-day experience and signed guitar from the rocker icon and
Hall of Fame songwriter.
Giving an edgy, Hollywood twist to the horseracing
tradition of the pre-race national anthem performance, the rocker’s
much-anticipated return to the winner’s circle and vocal debut at the Breeders’
Cup follows his history-making performance of the “Call to the Post” anthem at
last year’s event.
|
To celebrate this year’s 31st running of the Breeders’ Cup
World Championships, Sambora has designed a one-of-a-kind custom handmade Kantor
Austrian crystal guitar, which he will use to perform the national anthem before
donating it to the lucky CharityBuzz auction winner.
|
This Sambora-designed guitar will be auctioned off to help City of Hope
(Breeders’ Cup Ltd.) |
The winning bidder will
also receive two VIP tickets to the World Championships for October 31-November 1 and do a meet and greet with Richie while personally
joining him in the winner’s circle for the special performance.
The CharityBuzz auction will officially launch on September
26 and end on October 14, with all proceeds from the auction being donated to
City of Hope, the Breeders’ Cup’s primary non-profit beneficiary.
