KMN Racing LLC’s Lindisfarne (City Zip) broke from the gate like a
shot, backed off two challengers who raced to her inside and then powered by
them down the lane to win the $100,000
Marshua
S.
for three-year-old fillies,
the first of two stakes races on Thursday afternoon at Laurel Park.

Both the Marshua S. and Frank Whiteley Jr. S.,
which were lost to a weather-induced cancellation last Saturday, were re-carded
on Thursday to highlight a 10-race program.

The Rudy Rodriguez-trained Lindisfarne was first up in the Marshua, entering
the contest off 4 1/2-length optional claiming score on New Year’s Day. Victor Carrasco
was up that day and retained the mount as the chestnut miss won by 1 1/2 lengths
while covering the six-furlong distance in
1:11 2/5 over the fast main track. The filly returned $12.80 as the 5-1 third
choice.

“Before I rode her last time, Rudy told me that she was
very nice but she could be a little nervous,” Carrasco said. “This race was
scheduled last weekend and we had the number one post position but when they
re-entered for today we were the seven.

“I think it helped being on the outside. There was a lot of speed down near
the rail so I just let my filly settle. I looked back around the five-sixteenths
to see if Lake Sebago (Munnings) was coming and I didn’t see anything so I just
went and asked my filly to go. She responded really well. She ran a great race
today.”

Lindisfarne is now 3-0-1 from five lifetime starts and has banked $103,295
thus far.

Majestic Affair romped in the Whiteley

(Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club)

One race later, Majestic Affair (Majesticperfection) served up a dominating
performance to capture the $100,000
Frank Whiteley Jr.
S.
for sophomores.

Campaigned by James Covello, Thomas Coleman and Doheny Racing Stable, the
chestnut gelding was not among the original entries for the race, but found
himself running in the re-carded version after being entered by trainer Chad
Brown.

Under Kendrick Carmouche, Majestic Affair
powered up outside his rivals around the far turn in the seven-furlong test,
blew by them and powered away to a 5 3/4-length romp. He was in hand going under the finish line in
1:23 4/5 on the fast dirt.

“He’s not a very big horse but he’s got a big stride and he gets over just
about any surface he’s been on without any problems,” Carmouche
said. “Chad trains most of his horses to go long and I don’t think this horse
would have any problem going further. He won today in very easy fashion.”

This was the second stakes win for Majestic Affair, who
captured the Fred “Cappy” Capossela S. at Aqueduct on January 2 after a second-place
finish in the James F. Lewis III S. at Laurel on November 15. His record now
stands at 6-4-1-0, $184,000, with his only unplaced effort coming as an
eighth-place run in the Saratoga Special S. (G2) last August.

“I’m really grateful that I have been able to travel with
this horse for his last four races,” Carmouche remarked. “He seems like he’s
really starting to get good now. I thought be might be a little closer today
coming off six furlongs but I had plenty of horse the entire way and when I
asked him he just went about his business.”

Majestic Affair paid $2.40 as the overwhelming 1-5 favorite.
