Other contenders in the nine-horse field include Juan and Bina, who exits a
runner-up in the November 29 Smooth Air at Gulfstream Park West; Buffalo Man
runner-up Brother Bobo; and last-out maiden winners A. Rod Again, Ami’s Flatter
and Honest.
Gulfstream will offer a total five $100,000 stakes for three-year-olds on Saturday,
including a pair of Grade 3 events in the
Old Hat
and Dania
Beach.
Fashion Alert is a likely favorite in the Old Hat. Trained by Todd Pletcher,
who will seeking his third straight win in the six-furlong event for fillies,
Fashion Alert figures to relish the cutback to one turn following her first
career setback, a sixth in the Grade 1 Alciabides at 1 1/16 miles. The daughter
of Old Fashioned easily captured her first two starts sprinting, including the
Grade 3 Schuylerville at Saratoga, and Velazquez will retain the mount.
R Sassy Lass returns to Gulfstream for Kirk Ziadie following a win in the
December 6 Sandpiper at Tampa Bay Downs. Stakes winners Concealedwithakiss and
Temper Mint Patty are also entered.
Ten colts and geldings are set for the Dania Beach at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf,
including Crown the Kitten. The Wesley Ward-trained gelding exits a sharp 5
3/4-length score in the grassy El Joven at Remington Park on October 11 and
receives a new rider in Joel Rosario. Croninthebarbarian and Night Prowler, the
respective second- and third-place finishers in the November 29 Pulpit at
Gulfstream Park West, are also entered.
The
Spectacular Bid serves as the Old Hat counterpart and will match a field of
11 over six panels. Bluegrass Singer is cross-entered in this spot and if his
connections opt for the Mucho Macho Man, Ready for Rye could easily go favored.
Conditioned by Tom Albertrani, the City Zip gelding exits a seven-length maiden
romp at Belmont Park that netted a 100 BRIS Speed rating.
Right on Kitten and Sunday Sonnet are the top draws in the
Ginger
Brew at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf. The former is unbeaten for Mike Maker,
posting a 2 3/4-length score in the La Senorita at Remington Park last out,
while the latter recorded a good second in the P.G. Johnson at Saratoga in her
lone turf appearance. A total of 11 fillies, including a main-track runner, were
entered.
