American Pharoah could remain in California for his sophomore debut

Reigning champion two-year-old male American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) is
now a candidate for the $400,000 San Felipe S. (G2) on March 7 at Santa Anita
Park as well as the $750,000 Rebel S. (G2) at Oaklawn Park on March 14, trainer
Bob Baffert said.

“He looks good. He’ll come around quick,” Baffert said. “We have the Rebel,
and the San Felipe. If all goes well, he’ll be in one of those.”

Both the Rebel and San Felipe are run at 1 1/16 miles.

American Pharoah had his first published
workout on Monday, February 2, blowing out three furlongs in :36 1/5 over Santa
Anita’s fast dirt. The bay colt was last seen on the worktab October 26, prior to missing the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
(G1) on November
1 due to a suspensory-related injury.



American Pharoah closed at his morning-line odds of 12-1 in Pool 1 of the
Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) and opened at 10-1 on the morning line when
Pool 2 of the KDFW began Friday.
