Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red (Afleet Alex) will miss the February
21 Risen Star (G2) at Fair Grounds due to a foot abscess.

Trained and co-owned
by Keith Desormeaux, the bay colt remains under consideration for the Kentucky
Derby and will likely target either the April 4 Santa Anita Derby (G1) or the
April 11 Arkansas Derby (G1) for a final prep race.

After registering his first stakes tally with a 6 1/2-length Juvenile romp,
Texas Red opened 2015 with a fast-finishing neck second in the seven-furlong San
Vicente (G2) on February 1. The late runner was bet down to 9-1 favoritism among
the individual interests in last weekend’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2,
the only individual at single-digit odds.

Texas Red currently has 12 points toward a Kentucky Derby berth, receiving
two points for a third in the FrontRunner (G1) last September as well as 10 for
the Juvenile. He’s earned $1,232,300 from a 6-2-2-1 record.
