Tabreed looks to stay perfect on Keeneland turf in Bewitch

Last updated: 4/21/15 2:55 PM

After revealing she would be retired and bred to More Than Ready following a
second-place finish in last month’s Orchid (G3) at Gulfstream Park, trainer
Christophe Clement will give Tabreed (Sakhee) another chance to go out a winner
in Friday’s $150,000
Bewitch (G3).

A 1 1/2-mile grass fixture for fillies and mares, the Bewitch brings down the
curtain at the Keeneland Spring Meet. A full field of 14 were entered, plus two
also-eligibles.

A six-year-old owned by China Horse Club, Tabreed has been unlucky in recent
years not to have reached the winner’s circle in several leading long-distance
turf races. She’s placed in the Orchid, Long Island H. (G3), La Prevoyante H.
(G3), The Very One (G3), and Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon.

Beaten only a half-length in the March 28 Orchid, Tabreed returns to the
Keeneland turf, over which she scored one of her three lifetime wins in an
allowance during the 2013 Fall Meet.

Clement will also saddle Anipa (Sea the Stars), and English import who
captured the Cheshire Oaks last year and receives Lasix for the first time
Friday, and the Grade 3-placed stakes winner Courtesan (Street Sense).

Grade 2 veteran Caroline Thomas (Giant’s Causeway) has narrowly missed
winning in her three prior trips over the Keeneland sod, finishing third in the
2013 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1), third by a neck in last year’s
Bewitch, and second by a nose in the Dowager last October. She made her season
debut February 21, finishing a dead-heat fourth in The Very One at Gulfstream.

Grade 3 scorer Kitten’s Point (Kitten’s Joy) has not had as much success on
the local turf, finishing out of the money in the Jenny Wiley (G1) and First
Lady (G1) in 2014. However, she performed ably at this distance last time when
third in the Orchid.

Other notables in the field are White Rose (Tapit), reigning winner of the
Dowager and fourth in the Orchid last out, and the Chad Brown-trained duo of
Hellenistic (English Channel) and Cay Dancer (Danehill Dancer).
