Untapable (Tapit), the reigning champion three-year-old filly, did not have a
good start to her four-year-old campaign last month when she was upset at odds
of 1-10 in the Azeri (G2) at Oaklawn Park. She will seek redemption Friday in
that track’s signature even for fillies and mares, the $600,000
Apple
Blossom H. (G1)
over 1 1/16 miles.

Ron Winchell’s homebred capped a six stakes-win season last fall when beating
the best older mares in training in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1), but found
herself in a rare position when falling short to the front-running Gold Medal
Dancer (Medaglia d’Oro) in the Azeri. Visually, Untapable looked uncomfortable
on the wet track and didn’t settle easily for John Velazquez, who retains the
mount Friday.

Gold Medal Dancer is back to oppose after her half-length victory, but all
things being equal may have difficulty upsetting the champion twice. She does
like the Oaklawn strip, though, with three wins and a third in four outings over
it.

Scratched from the Azeri was last year’s Fantasy (G3) winner Sugar Shock
(Candy Ride), who instead prepped for the Apple Blossom in a one-mile allowance
a week later. However, the filly exited the scene quickly and lost by 17 lengths
to Call Pat (Lawyer Ron), a longshot who is also in the Apple Blossom.

The field is completed by Pearl Turn (Bernardini), a second-level allowance
winner last time; Diva’s Diamond (Crafty Shaw), fourth in the Azeri; and Glorys
Last Chance (Stephen Got Even), an outsider who ran third to Pearl Turn most
recently.

Earlier on Friday, seven three-year-olds will dash six furlongs in the
$100,000
Bachelor
. Subtle Indian (Indian Charlie) will attempt to remain undefeated
after recently wiring the field in the $98,000 Gazebo over the track and
distance. Re-opposing are the second-, third-, and fourth-place finishers —
Bayerd (Speightstown), Hebbronville (Majesticperfection), and A M Milky Way
(Elusive Bluff).

I Spent It (Super Saver), who captured the Saratoga Special (G2) last summer,
returns to the three-year-old ranks after trailing in his allowance comeback
March 18. That race was open to older horses.

Also in the mix is recent five-length allowance scorer Holy Boss (Street
Boss) and maiden winner G G’s Secondchance (Yes It’s True).
