Winchell Thoroughbreds big winner at KTOB KY-bred Champions
Award Luncheon

Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC took home four awards at Thursday’s annual KTOB KY-bred Champions Awards Luncheon hosted at Keeneland.

KTOB Broodmare of the Year honors went to Fun House (Prized), owned by
Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, who also took home honors as the breeder of KTOB
KY-bred Horse of the Year and three-year-old filly champion Untapable (Tapit). Winchell
Thoroughbreds LLC was also named the 2014 recipient of the P.A.B. Widener Trophy
for the KTOB Breeder of the Year, named in honor of the donor, P.A.B.
Widener, an internationally prominent horseman.

2014 KTOB Broodmare of the Year and owner and 2014 KY-bred
champions and their breeders:


  • Broodmare of the Year: FUN HOUSE (Winchell
    Thoroughbreds LLC)
  • Horse of the Year; Three Year Old Filly: UNTAPABLE
    (Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC)
  • Two Year Old Colt: AMERICAN PHAROAH (Zayat Stables)
  • Two Year Old Filly: TAKE CHARGE BRANDI (Charming
    Syndicate)
  • Three Year Old Colt: SHARED BELIEF (Pam & Martin Wygod)
  • Older Male: WISE DAN (Morton Fink)
  • Older Female: CLOSE HATCHES (Millsec LTD)
  • Male Turf Horse: MAIN SEQUENCE (Flaxman Holdings Limited)
  • Female Turf Horse: STEPHANIE’S KITTEN (Kenneth L. & Sarah
    K. Ramsey)
  • Sprinter: GOLDENCENTS (Rosecrest Farm & Karyn Pirrello)
  • Steeplechase Horse: DEMONSTRATIVE (Gainsborough Farm LLC)
  • Racing Abroad: TOAST OF NEW YORK (Ashleigh Stud & Frank &
    Jackie Ramos)

  • Four Merit Awards were presented to individuals for their
    contributions to the Kentucky Thoroughbred Industry:


  • P.A.B. Widener Trophy for KTOB Breeder of the Year:
    WINCHELL THOROUGHBREDS LLC
  • Hardboot Breeders’ Award pays tribute to distinctive but
    unsung breeders that help make up the backbone of our industry: HELEN ALEXANDER
  • Charles W. Engelhard Award acknowledges a member of the
    media for outstanding coverage of the Thoroughbred industry: GREGORY A. HALL
  • William T. Young Humanitarian Award distinguishes a
    person in the Thoroughbred industry “who recognizes and promotes the human
    endeavor:” G. WATTS & SALLY HUMPHREY

  • Also receiving awards were the top Kentucky Thoroughbred
    Development Fund (KTDF) money earners in 2014 in five separate categories:


  • KTDF Sire of the Year: KITTEN’S JOY (Ramsey Farm)
  • KTDF Earner of the Year: MY AFLEET (Jeffrey Amling &
    Merriefield Farm)
  • KTDF Owner of the Year: KENNETH L. & SARAH K. RAMSEY
  • KTDF Trainer of the Year: MICHAEL MAKER
  • KTDF Breeder of the Year: KENNETH L. & SARAH K. RAMSEY

  • Recipients of the 2014 KTOB KY-bred champion awards were
    voted on by the full membership of KTA/KTOB while the KTDF category leaders were
    tabulated using purse money won at Kentucky racetracks in 2014. KTOB merit award
    recipients were voted on by the KTA/KTOB board of directors.

    In existence since 1967 and 1983, respectively, the KTOB
    and KTA direct their efforts toward promoting and protecting the Thoroughbred
    industry by maintaining the highest levels of racing, breeding and training
    standards in the Commonwealth.
