First Samurai filly tops final session of successful F-T
Midlantic sale

A daughter of First Samurai sold for $475,000 Tuesday, topping the final
session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale at
Timonium, Maryland.

Tom Durant was the winning bidder on Hip No. 366, who was consigned by
Eisaman Equine, agent. The March 17 Kentucky-bred was reared by Superduper Miss
(Robyn Dancer), a Grade 2-placed winner of six stakes and half-sister to Grade 3
vixen Lines of Beauty (Line in the Sand) and Group 3-placed stakes winner Linas
Selection (Selkirk).

Previously bought for $20,000 by Stud El Aguila at Keeneland September, the
juvenile worked an eighth-mile in :10 1/5 at last week’s under tack show.

A pair of colts each brought $450,000 during the session. The first was Hip
400, a son of Bluegrass Cat consigned by Kings Equine, agent. The May 5 New
York-bred was knocked down to Jacob L. West, agent.

Produced by Unbridled Melody (Unbridled’s Song), the bay is a half-brother to
stakes winner Tourist (Tiznow), who placed in the Secretariat S. (G1), and a
full brother to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Michael With Us.

This is the extended family of French highweight Librettist (Danzig),
Japanese champion Hishi Akebono (Woodman), multiple Group 1 winner Agnes World
(Danzig), and Group 1 scorer Dubai Destination (Kingmambo).

This was the third time through the sales ring for the bay, who worked one
furlong in :10 at the under tack show, the fastest move of the day at that
distance. He went for $90,000 at the Fasig-Tipton October sale but RNA’d for
$160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton March sale two months ago.

Also bringing $450,000 was Hip 439, an Unbridled’s Song colt who is the first
foal out of multiple Grade 2 winner Amen Hallelujah (Montbrook). Consigned by
Eddie Woods, agent, he was purchased by John Kimmel for Summit TB.

Amen Hallelujah bankrolled $610,081 while taking the Davona Dale S. (G2) and
Santa Ynez (G2) and placing in nine other graded stakes, six of which were at
Grade 1 level. She was reared by multiple stakes winner Sara’s Success
(Concorde’s Tune), whose descendants also include current San Pedro S. scorer
Yiannis (Midshipman). This family also includes Grade 1 winners Roman Ruler
(Fusaichi Pegasus) and El Corredor (Mr. Greeley).

Previously sold to GEM Stables for $280,000 at Keeneland September, the colt
worked a furlong in :10 2/5 at the under tack show.

Business was up across the board at the conclusion of trading Tuesday, when
128 juveniles sold for $9,612,000. That was an increase of 19.4 percent over
last year’s corresponding session when 161 horses sold for $8,048,000. The
average increased 50.2 percent, from $49,988 to $75,094, while the median spiked
45.8 percent, from $30,000 to $43,750.

The sale’s final figures showed 255 two-year-olds grossing $22,659,000, a
jump of 15.6 percent over last year when 329 horses brought $19,601,000. The
average increased 49.1 percent, from $59,578 to $88,859, while the median rose
45.2 percent, from $31,000 to $45,000.
