CHICKEN HAWK (J P’s Gusto), a Florida-bred juvenile offered by Wavertree
Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent, was gaveled down to Dennis O’Neill for $230,000
at Barretts’ May Two-Year-Old in Training Sale, held Thursday at Del Mar.

Sporting Hip No. 65, the March 23 colt is out of Iny Belle (Lord Carson), who
has also reared the multiple stakes-placed Smoky Belle (Macho Uno). Iny Belle is

stakes winner Princess Belle (Mr. Greeley).

Chicken Hawk was a successful pinhook after bringing $72,000 at last month’s

The March 23 colt worked a quarter-mile in :21 1/5 at the under tack show.

At the conclusion of trading, 92 juveniles sold for $4,199,000, an increase
of 38.5 percent from last year when 70 head brought $3,031,500. The average was
up 5.4 percent, from $43,307 to $45,641, while the median remained level at
$30,000.

Also on Thursday, two horses of racing age were sold for a cumulative
$17,000, for an average and median of $8,500.
