A right front foot bruise discovered Monday by trainer Art Sherman has derailed Horse of the Year California Chrome’s bid (Lucky Pulpit) for Wednesday’s
Princes of Wales’s S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot.

California Chrome is expected to make a quick recovery from the minor injury,
which is believed to have happened while training recently at Newmarket, but the
chestnut colt will need at least a few days of rest and was officially scratched
from the Prince of Wales’s on Tuesday morning.

The dual classic winner finished second in two earlier starts this year, the
San Antonio (G2) and Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1), and his connections will wait to
determine any future plans.

California Chrome has earned $6,322,650 from an 18-9-3-1 record.
