An Into Mischief colt brought a record-equaling $575,000 bid from Frank
Fletcher Racing Operations at Wednesday’s second session of the Ocala Breeders’
Sales Company’s June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale. A sale-record
bid of that amount was also record by Tuesday’s session leader, a Scat Daddy
colt.
Consigned by Thoroughbred Champions Training Center, the May 19 Into Mischief
juvenile was reared by Kiss the King (Roman Ruler), a half-sister to Group
1-placed As You Like (Trempolino), a multiple stakes winner in Italy. The May 19
Kentucky-bred, offered as Hip No. 509, counts as his third dam the Grade
1-winning A Kiss for Luck (Reflected Glory), whose descendants include Grade 1
vixen Alphabet Kisses
The session topper was previously an $11,000 Keeneland September yearling,
but was led out unsold after a $95,000 bid at the OBS March Sale. He recorded a
quarter-mile time of :20 3/5, the fastest of the day at the distance, at last
week’s under tack show.
Steven W. Young, agent, secured a Bernardini colt for $350,000. Hip 355 was
consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent.
The January 23 Ontario-bred was produced by Flawless Diamond (Saint Ballado),
making him a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Blue Heart (Exchange Rate)
and the stakes-placed Henshin Hero (Dance Master), Final Redemption (Hard Spun),
and Diamondaire (Distorted Humor). The latter is the dam of Grade 3 winner C.
Zee (Elusive Bluff) and the stakes-placed Awesome Ice (Awesome of Course).
Previously sold for $300,000 at Keeneland September, the two-year-old worked
one furlong in :10 2/5 at the under tack show.
At the conclusion of trading Wednesday, 144 horses had sold for $5,506,300, a
decline of 3.1 percent from the corresponding session last year when $5,681,400
was grossed from the sale of 186 juveniles. The session average rose 25.5
percent, from $30,545 to $38,238, while the median dipped 11.4 percent, from
$22,000 to $19,500.
At the sale’s midway point, 288 horses have sold for $10,684,900, a decline
of 3.2 percent from last year when 363 head had sold for $11,040,300. The
average is up 22 percent, from $30,414 to $37,100, while the median is off 13.6
