Scat Daddy colt tops leader board at first OBS juvenile
session
A son of Scat Daddy sold to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for a
record $575,000 on Tuesday at the opening session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales
Company’s June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale. The previous record
was held by stakes winner Conquest Top Gun (Pioneerof the Nile), who brought
$525,000 at the 2013 OBS June Sale. Consigned by SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven
Venosa), agent, the record-setting February 1 colt toured the ring as Hip No.
78.
Reared by Antoinette (Silver Hawk), the two-year-old is a half-sister to the
stakes-placed Notassharpasuthink (Sharp Humor) and hails from the family of
Grade 2 winner Evansville Slew (Slew City Slew).
The Kentucky-bred, who was led out unsold after a $145,000 bid at the
Fasig-Tipton October sale, worked a quarter-mile in :20 4/5 at last week’s under
tack show, co-fastest time at the distance.
Mersad Metanovic Bloodstock secured Hip 118, a Pulpit colt, for $335,000. Hip
118 was offered by de Meric Stables, agent for Golden Legacy Stables.
The gray, who also has a February 1 birth date, is out of the stakes-placed
Beautiful Song (Unbridled’s Song). His third dam produced English highweight
Lucayan Prince (Fast Play), Grade 2-winning producer Silver Comic (Silver Hawk),
and Grade 3 winner and sire Comic Strip (Red Ransom).
Previously sold for $120,000 at Keeneland September, the colt worked one
furlong in :10 at the under tack show.
At the conclusion of trading Tuesday, 136 horses sold for $5,039,100, a
decline of 6 percent from last year’s first session when 177 head brought
$5,358,900. The average increased 22.4 percent, from $30,276 to $37,052, while
the median dipped 23.9 percent, from $23,000 to $17,500.
The sales runs through Friday with daily sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m.
(EDT). For full results, visit obssales.com.
