Hip No. 771, a bay son of Super
Saver consigned by Bobby Dodd, agent, went to The Three Amigos for $575,000 to
top Thursday’s third session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 June Sale of
Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age.
The price equaled the June Sale record
set Tuesday for a colt by Scat Daddy which was tied again Wednesday for a son of Into
Mischief.
Thursday’s topper is a half-brother to multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire Fiftyshadesofhay
(Pulpit), and the siblings are out of Grade 1-placed Quiet Kim (Real Quiet). The
female family boasts among its members Grade 1 scorers Snow Ridge (Tabasco Cat)
and Afleet Express (Afleet Alex) as well as this year’s Florida Derby (G1) hero
Materiality (Afleet Alex).
The juvenile colt breezed a quarter in :21 3/5 at last Friday’s under
tack session.
Hip 603, a daughter of Unbridled’s Song also consigned
by Bobby Dodd, agent, sold to Sallusto & Albina for $500,000 to register as
the highest-priced filly for the session and the second highest on the day.
The gray lass, whose eighth in :9 4/5 was co-fastest at last Thursday’s under
tack
session, is out of the winning Miss Abita (Dixie Union), a half-sister to the
dam of ill-fated Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Eight Belles (Unbridled’s Song).
Her fourth dam is champion handicap mare Straight Deal (Hail to Reason).
For the session, 153 horses sold for a total of $6,376,500,
a drop of 4.8 percent when compared with 203 horses bringing $6,700,900 at last year’s third session. The
average was $41,676, a jump of 26.3 percent when compared with $33,009 in 2014.
The median price was
$17,000, identical to last year’s figure. The buyback percentage was 25 percent; it was
12 percent last year. Five youngsters sold for $200,000 or more compared with four in
the corresponding session a year ago.
Thus far in the sale, 456 youngsters have been purchased for $17,644,400, a
slight 0.5 percent decline over last year’s total of $17,741,200 recorded for
566 juveniles. The average rose 19 percent, from $31,345 to $38,694, while the
median fell 5 percent, from $20,000 to $19,000.
