Connections considering Nassau for Carla Bianca after Meld
win
Carla Bianca (Dansili) was sent straight to the lead in Thursday’s Meld S.
(Ire-G3) at Leopardstown and never looked back under a well-judged front-running
ride from Pat Smullen. Trained by Dermot Weld, the Moyglare Stud homebred gave every indication that Elleval’s
(Kodiac) presence was only spurring her on further as the line neared,
eventually finishing three parts of a length the better.
“I
thought her run at Cork, conceding all that weight to a filly that is second
favorite for the (Irish) Oaks (Ire-G1), was very good,” Smullen said. “I was a little
bit concerned beforehand that the ground had gone on her, but to be fair to her
she got through it well and she seems to be adaptable that way.”
Fourth in the Moyglare Stud S. (Ire-G1) at two, Carla Bianca
added the listed Naas Oaks Trial, Gowran Park’s listed Hurry Harriet S. and the
Dance Design S. (Ire-G3) to her resume last term before returning to be fourth behind Legatissimo
(Danehill Dancer) in the listed Victor McCalmont
Memorial S. over an extended nine furlongs back at Gowran on April 26.
Given a break
before finishing second to Words (Dansili) in
the 12-furlong Munster Oaks (Ire-G3) at Cork on June 14, the four-year-old gray
miss regained the winning thread on Thursday and her connections are
now considering a tilt at Goodwood’s Nassau S. (Eng-G1) on August 1.
