Friesan Fire’s first winner strikes at Parx

Last updated: 7/12/15 4:28 PM

Grade 2 star Friesan Fire (A.P. Indy) registered his first winner when
Morning Fire overcame trouble in Sunday’s
2ND
race at Parx. Trained by Keith Nations and ridden by John Bisono, the chestnut
juvenile forced the pace, had to steady and alter course, but got up in time by
a neck. Morning Fire, third on his debut, added blinkers here. Part of an entry
sent off at 2-1, he negotiated the five-furlong maiden special weight on the
fast track in :59.57.

Morning Fire, who was bred by Cynthia Hipple in Pennsylvania, races for Stony
Brook Stables. The colt was produced by the winning Press Card mare Four Star
Morning, a half-sister to stakes scorers Five Star Deputy (Silver Deputy) and
Time to Dream (Time for a Change).

Friesan Fire ranked as the favorite in the 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) after
sweeping the Fair Grounds preps, the Lecomte (G3), Risen Star (G3) and Louisiana
Derby (G2). But after getting banged up in a rough trip, he wound up an
uncharacteristic 18th. Although the strapping bay later added the 2010 Louisiana
H. to his resume, he didn’t fully regain his old form and eventually retired
with $679,356 in earnings from an 18-5-1-3 line.

From a stellar family in Australia and New Zealand, Friesan Fire is out of
Group 1 heroine Bollinger (Dehere). The nine-year-old stallion stands for a fee
of $4,000, stands and nurses, at Country Life Farm near Bel Air, Maryland.
