Longshot Calamity Kate wires Delaware Oaks, Lovely Maria
finishes fifth
George and Lori Hall’s Calamity Kate (Yes It’s True) was sent off the 54-1
longest shot in Saturday’s $300,375
Delaware Oaks (G3), but ran like a favorite when wiring the 1 1/16-mile
contest by 1 3/4 lengths under jockey Edgar Prado. The Kelly Breen-trained filly
stopped the clock in 1:41.79, just missing the track record of 1:41.52 set on
July 4, 1998.
Lovely Maria (Majesticperfection), who was sent off the 1-5 favorite while
making her first start since taking the Kentucky Oaks (G1), finished fifth on
the wire.
