McCarthy transported to hospital

Last updated: 7/19/15 6:34 PM

Jockey Trevor McCarthy was transported to Saint
Barnabas/Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch after his mount Calypso Run
(Harlan’s Holiday)
clipped heels at the top of the stretch, unseating the 21-year-old journeyman in
the Miss Woodford S., Monmouth Park’s 10TH race, Sunday afternoon.

“He went for further neurological testing,” said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, medical
director for the racetrack, “which will include a CAT scan of the brain and
other tests. He was complaining of a severe headache, so I sent him for extra
testing.”

McCarthy, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, was moving up along
the rail in the six-furlong contest when he was unseated. Prior to Sunday’s incident,
he had ridden 25 winners
from 165 mounts, good for fourth in the overall Monmouth standings.

Further updates will follow when available.
