Read S. (G1) at Del Mar will showcase a match-up between Midnight Storm (Pioneerof
the Nile) and Finnegans Wake (Powerscourt). The 1 1/8-mile turf affair drew a
field of seven and also includes Gabriel Charles (Street Hero).
Midnight Storm and Gabriel Charles each captured editions of the Del Mar
Derby (G2), with the former doing so last year and the latter in 2013. Finnegans
Wake gutted out a head score in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (G1) on
Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs. All three are looking for a return to the
winner’s circle in the Eddie Read.
