The Pizza Man, Quiet Force, Walk Close score on Million
Preview Day
Midwest Thoroughbreds’ homebred The Pizza Man (English Channel) won the
Stars and Stripes (G3) at Arlington for the second straight year on
Saturday, furthering his claims for the August 15 Arlington Million (G1).
Trained by Roger Brueggeman and ridden by Florent Geroux, the 4-5 favorite
got up by a neck over front-running Roman Approval (Roman Ruler) in the 1
1/2-mile test. Click here for the
full recap on the TwinSpires.com blog.
The Pizza Man had been cross-entered to Saturday’s
Arlington H. (G3), which was won by 5-1 chance Quiet Force (Dynaformer).
Driving home from a stalking second, the Mike Maker charge bested Middleburg
(Lemon Drop Kid) and Up With the Birds (Stormy Atlantic) in the local prep for
the Million. The
full recap is available at the TwinSpires.com blog.
The
Modesty H. (G3), the prep for the Million’s sister race, the Beverly D.
(G1), featured a strong late run from Walk Close (Tapit). The Christophe Clement
filly bested Mango Diva (Holy Roman Emperor), with Gaga A (T. H. Approval)
third. For more, see the
