Brous Stable LLC, Gary Barber and Wachtel Stable’s Tiz Shea D (Tiznow) bided
his time in second as Mr. Z (Malibu Moon) set the pace in Saturday evening’s
$508,000
Indiana Derby (G2), and found himself in the perfect spot when the leader
suddenly bore out on the turn.
That action carried Tiz Shea D and rallying 7-5 favorite Divining Rod (Tapit)
wide, but the duo maintained their momentum as jockey Joe Bravo steadied Mr. Z.
Those three battled it out in the Indiana Grand lane, with Tiz Shea D emerging
victorious by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:43.02 for 1 1/16 miles over the sloppy, sealed
main track.
Jose Lezcano was aboard the Bill Mott trainee, who was sent off the 4-1 third
choice and earned his first stakes victory in this spot.
Mr. Z just held Divining Rod by a head to take second.
