Stopchargingmaria (Tale of the Cat) was sent off a close second favorite to
Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner and champion Untapable (Tapit) in Sunday’s
$200,000
Shuvee H. (G3) at Saratoga and, after a race-long battle, managed to subdue
that filly to score by a length on the wire.
The two talented runners hooked up from the start and fought it out to the
line, with Stopchargingmaria and jockey Javier Castellano stopping the clock in
1:49.37 for 1 1/8 miles over the fast main track.
It was the Todd Pletcher trainee’s second straight win following a
four-year-old romp in the Allaire duPont Distaff (G3) on May 15 at Pimlico. That
came after Stopchargingmaria’s close runner-up effort in the Madison S. (G1) at
Keeneland while making her four-year-old bow on April 4.
