Ladies Classic, Connally Turf Cup top lucrative Sam Houston
card
The richest day of the racing year in Texas takes place Saturday when
Sam Houston hosts the $400,000 Houston Ladies Classic (G3) and $200,000 John B.
Connally Turf Cup (G3), plus two other stakes. The Ladies Classic, contested
at 1 1/16 miles, carries Grade 3 status for the first time this year, while the
Connally Turf Cup will be run at 1 1/2 miles for the first time after being a
nine-furlong event for many years.
Also this week, Grade 2 winner
Blofeld returns to action for the first time since July in a $48,000 conditioned
allowance at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday. A highly-regarded juvenile in
2014 after winning the Nashua (G2) and Futurity (G2), Blofeld lost twice in an
abbreviated sophomore campaign for Todd Pletcher.
In addition to previews of this racing action, Monday’s TwinSpires.com blog
features include
Kellie Reilly’s review of last week’s Dubai Racing Carnival action from Meydan.
