Rees, Sullivan claim Media Eclipse Awards; Churchill
releases spring stakes schedule
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form
and National Turf Writers And Broadcasters (NTWAB) announced a couple more 2015
Media Eclipse Awards on Tuesday, with
Jennie Rees capturing the Writing in the Feature/Commentary category for
“Dyslexia Doesn’t Slow Down Keen Ice Trainer Romans” and Tim Sullivan taking the
Writing in the News/Enterprise category for “Family, PETA at odds after
Horseman’s Death.”
Churchill Downs announced their spring stakes schedule on Tuesday. The 142nd
renewals of the Kentucky Derby Oaks and Kentucky Derby (May 6-7) once again
highlight a roster of 26 stakes and the Firecracker has been renamed the Wise
Dan (G2), with the $200,000 turf race being offered on the June 18 Stephen
Foster (G1) undercard.
With an 8 percent increase in December,
U.S. Thoroughbred handle rose 1.18 percent in 2015 according to Thoroughbred
Racing Economic Indicator numbers released by Equibase on Tuesday.
