Business down across the board at first Fasig-Tipton
session
MAGGIE D’ORO (Medaglia d’Oro), a six-year-old mare in foal to the recently
deceased Scat Daddy on an April 16 cover, topped the first session of the
Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale in Lexington on Monday.
Consigned by Select Sales, agent, Hip No. 55 was gaveled down to Green
Lantern Stables for $210,000.
The unraced mare, whose first foal is a yearling by Data Link, was reared by
Ionlyhaveeyesforu (Tunerup), which makes her a half-sister to multiple Grade 3
winner Gaff (Maria’s Mon). Ionlyhaveeyesforu is also the second dam of multiple
stakes-winning turf sprinter Katie’s Eyes (Leroidesanimaux).
ZONDAQ (Bernardini), a three-year-old filly who was unplaced twice in two
starts last season, was sold as a racing/broodmare prospect to New Providence
Bloodstock for $190,000.
Consigned by Valkyre Stud, agent, she was the last offering through the ring
as Hip 296.
Produced by West Side Dancer (Gone West), Zondaq is a half-sister to Grade 2
winners Discreet Dancer (Discreet Cat) and Travelin Man (Trippi), as well as
stakes winner Sweet N Discreet (Discreet Cat).
Zondaq’s third dam was Lassie Dear (Buckpasser), whose many notable
descendants include Broodmare of the Year Weekend Surprise (Secretariat), the
dam of A.P. Indy (Seattle Slew).
Business was down across the board on Monday as 185 horses sold for
$3,295,500, a decline of 17 percent from last year when 131 horses brought
$3,968,400. The session average was off 41.2 percent, from $30,293 to $17,814,
while the median dropped 52.9 percent, from $17,000 to $8,000.
