Fasig-Tipton sale ends with declines, Flashy American tops
final session

Business rebounded Tuesday at the final session of Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky
Winter Mixed Sale in Lexington, but a smaller catalog compared to last year
resulted in overall declines in gross and average during the two-day auction.

Following large declines across the board Monday, Tuesday’s second session
saw 157 horses bring $4,966,100, a decrease of 24.7 percent from the
corresponding session in 2015 when 275 horses sold for $6,592,300. However, the
session average and median rebounded. Tuesday’s mean of $31,631 was up 31.9
percent from $23,972 last year, while the median rose 9.1 percent, from $11,000
to $12,000.

Cumulatively, 341 horses grossed $8,260,600, a drop of 21.8 percent over last
year when 406 head brought $10,560,700. The average dipped 6.9 percent, from
$26,012 to $24,225, while the median was off 20.8 percent, from $12,000 to
$9,500.

FLASHY AMERICAN (Flashy Bull), a four-time stakes winner who captured the
2014 Sixty Sails H. (G3) at Hawthorne, brought $395,000 from Blue Sky Stable to
lead Tuesday’s offerings. The seven-year-old mare, in foal to Kentucky Derby
(G1) winner Orb on an April 14 cover, was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency,
agent.

Hip No. 426 was reared by the multiple stakes-placed Inn Between (Quiet
American) and earned $778,683. She placed in five other graded stakes, including
the 2014 Delaware H. (G1). Flashy American hails from the family of multiple
Grade 3 winner I’m Already Sexy (Ready’s Image).

Stakes winner FUNFAIR (More Than Ready), offered in foal to the recently
deceased Scat Daddy on a March 19 cover, was gaveled down to Olin Gentry, agent,
for $350,000. Hip 431 was consigned by Darby Dan Farm, agent.

Reared by Fleuron (Distant View), a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner
Dynever (Dynaformer), Funfair hails from the family of Grade 1 winners Furthest
Land (Smart Strike) and Reluctant Guest (Hostage). Funfair’s first foal is a
yearling filly by Malibu Moon.
