Four years ago around this time, Mike Repole was celebrating the resounding Arkansas Derby (G1) victory by Overanalyze. On Thursday, the freshman sire’s first winner, Analyze the Odds, rolled to a 4 1/2-length victory in the Repole Stable colors at Aqueduct.
Trained like his sire by Todd Pletcher, Analyze the Odds was part of the 1-5 entry along with Surprise Wonder, who rounded out the all-Repole exacta. The winner broke sharply for Irad Ortiz Jr., let a rival go to the lead, and overwhelmed the pacesetter in the stretch to complete 4 1/2 furlongs in :52.53.
Analyze the Odds was bred by Lansdowne Stables in New York and sold for $15,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October. The bay colt is the first registered foal from the winning The Sense Angel, a Mineshaft mare descending from the great matron Sex Appeal. The juvenile’s third dam, Golden Oriole, is a full sister to El Gran Senor and Try My Best.
Overanalyze is by Dixie Union, who’s also responsible for hot second-crop sire Union Rags. Out of the unraced Unaccounted For mare Unacloud, Overanalyze is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Meadow Breeze (dam of last year’s Hopeful [G1] runner-up Royal Copy) and 2016 Florida Derby (G1) second Majesto.
Hero of the 2012 Remsen (G2) and Futurity (G2) in addition to his Arkansas Derby victory, Overanalyze retired with a record of 11-4-0-2, $1,046,381. That also reflects placings in the West Virginia Derby (G2) and Iroquois (G3).
The seven-year-old Overanalyze stands for $10,000, stands and nurses, at WinStar Farm near Versailles, Kentucky.
