Hip No. 631, a bay filly by Astrology, brought a winning bid of $300,000 from Whisper Hill Farm LLC to top Wednesday’s final session of the OBS June Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age Sale.
Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, the Kentucky-bred filly is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Dreamingly and comes from the same female family as Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) upsetter Raven’s Pass, European champion filly Rainbow View and Grade 1 hero Just as Well.
The filly, who sold for $50,000 at last year’s OBS August yearling sale, clocked a bullet two furlongs in :20.80 during the June 10 under tack show.
For the session, 193 juveniles were purchased for $6,973,900, a 48.4 percent jump over last year when 156 brought $4,699,900. The $36,134 average rose 19.9 percent on the 2016 average of $30,128, and the $20,000 median increased 33.3 percent on the $15,000 median 12 months ago.
For the Racing Age portion on Wednesday, MAJESTIC MONARCH sold to Thomas Clark Bloodstock LLC, agent, for $40,000. Consigned by Best a Luck Farm LLC, agent, as Hip 698, the sophomore daughter of Majestic Warrior is out of the unraced Touch Gold mare Party Silks. That makes her a half-sister to Grade 2 victor Upstart, who boasts six Grade 1 placings to his credit.
Majestic Monarch sold for $135,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred Preferred yearling in 2015. She breezed three-eighths in :34.20 at the under tack show.
Four horses sold during the Racing Age part of the sale in the last session for a total of $77,000 as compared to 16 bringing $146,500 last year. The average rose from $9,156 in 2016 to $19,250 on Wednesday, while the median jumped from $4,250 to $13,500.
