Camryn’s Gem tops 10th session of Keeneland November

Keeneland's November Breeding Stock Sale has just two days left

CAMRYN’S GEM, consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, as Hip No. 3352, saw the gavel drop on Calumet Farm’s winning bid of $110,000 to top Thursday’s 10th session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Camryn’s Gem is believed to be in foal to Wicked Strong on a March 14 cover.

By Unbridled’s Song and out of the Woodman mare Rubywood, the Kentucky-bred six-year-old is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Tale of Vienna and stakes-placed Nijinsky’s Song. The gray mare’s second dam is Ruby Slippers, who is herself a half-sister to Grade 3-scoring sire Glitterman.

Ruby Slippers is perhaps better known as the dam of champion sprinter Rubiano, granddam of Grade 1-winning leading sire Tapit, and great-granddam of 2009 champion three-year-old male and Belmont Stakes (G1) hero Summer Bird.

The third dam of Camryn’s Gem is Moon Glitter, a full sister to top spire Relaunch.

For the session, 235 horses were purchased for a total $2,886,300, down 13.5 percent when compared to the same day in 2016 when 247 were bought for $3,336,700. The average has fallen 9.1 percent, from $13,509 to $12,282, while the median of $7,500 has declined 16.7 percent when compared to the $9,000 median from 12 months ago.

Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, also consigned PRODICIOUS FACTS, and the Giant’s Causeway mare sold to Stuart Angus TMSA, agent, for $95,000 to be the second-highest price on the day.

Entering the sales ring as Hip 3553, the five-year-old mare is believed to be in foal to Violence on a May 6 cover.

Prodicious Facts is out of the unraced Quiet American mare In Truth, making her a half-sister to last-out Bold Ruler Handicap (G3) third-placer Beasley and stakes winner Mr Palmer. According to a tweet from Hill ‘n’ Dale, Beasley is nominated to the Discovery Stakes (G3) on November 25 at Aqueduct.

Prodicious Facts’ second dam is Quite Honestly, who is the granddam of multiple Grade 1-winning multi-millionaire Behrens. This female line also boasts dual Grade 1-scoring multi-millionaire Commentator.

The top-priced weanling during Thursday’s session was Hip 3529. The Dialed colt brought $65,000 from Calumet Farm to also be the third-highest price during the 10th session.

The Kentucky-bred dark bay came from the Shawhan Place LLC, agent, consignment, and was born February 21 to the Include mare Pajama Bottom. His third dam is Gwenjinsky, who produced multiple Grade 2 queen Lead Story. Gwenjinsky is a half-sister to 2001 Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) heroine Unbridled Elaine, who foaled Grade/Group 2 scorers Etched and Emotionless as well as Grade 3 victor Out of Bounds, and Grade 1-winning millionaire Glitter Woman, who produced Grade 1 conqueror Political Force.

With just two days left in the Keeneland November sale, 2,197 horses have exchanged hands for a gross $200,620,600, a decrease of 5.2 percent over last year at this point when 2,171 horses had been purchased for a total $211,708,000. The average of $91,316 has fallen 6.4 percent from the 2016 cumulative average of $97,516, while the $40,000 median remains the same.
