Frigid temperatures and subzero wind chills have prompted New York Racing Association officials to cancel live racing at Aqueduct on Sunday and Monday. Aqueduct and Belmont Park were to remain open for simulcasting.
The loss of Monday’s card impacts the Jerome, a Kentucky Derby (G1) points race, and the Bay Ridge. On Saturday, Aqueduct called off the last five races, including the Damon Runyon. Sunday’s feature was the Alex M. Robb.
Other tracks also canceled due to the extreme cold.
Laurel scrapped live racing Sunday and Monday, after canceling the last three races scheduled on Saturday.
Turfway Park likewise called off Sunday and Monday racing. But the track will be open for simulcasting, and the New Year’s Eve party will go on as scheduled.
Parx canceled both Sunday and Monday.
