A smashing winner of the FrontRunner (G1) and Del Mar Futurity (G1) last season, Bolt d’Oro (#3) heads 23 individual interests in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW). Churchill Downs oddsmaker Mike Battaglia has pegged the imposing son of Medaglia d’Oro at 6-1 on the morning line and Bolt d’Oro shares the early-favorite role with the pari-mutuel field of “All Other 3-Year-Olds” (#24).
The three-day wager opens Friday at noon (ET) and closes Sunday at 6 p.m.
It promises to be an exciting weekend for the Mick Ruis-trained Bolt d’Oro, who will launch his sophomore campaign in Saturday’s San Felipe (G2) at Santa Anita. The returning star faces difficult assignment against McKinzie (#15), who comes next on the morning line at 8-1 with a pair of runners.
McKinzie exits a romping victory in January’s Sham (G3) at Santa Anita and is conditioned by four-time Kentucky Derby winner Bob Baffert.
Audible (#1) and Promises Fulfilled (#19), who exit convincing tallies in the Holy Bull (G2) and Fountain of Youth (G2), respectively, are also listed at 8-1. And they’re scheduled to meet in the March 31 Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park.
Audible hails from the barn of two-time Kentucky Derby victor Todd Pletcher. Along with Magnum Moon (#14), Noble Indy (#18) and Vino Rosso (#23), Pletcher leads all trainers with four runners in Pool 3.
Baffert has a trio with brilliant debut winner Justify (#12) and multiple Grade 1 runner-up Solomini (#20) joining McKinzie. Dale Romans has Holy Bull runner-up Free Drop Billy (#8) to go with Promises Fulfilled. Others with a pair are Hall of Famers Jerry Hollendorfer (#11 Instilled Regard and #13 Kanthaka) and D. Wayne Lukas (#4 Bravazo and #21 Sporting Chance).
After being bet down as the slight 8-1 favorite in Pool 2 of the KDFW, Good Magic (#10) figures to offer more value this time around after finishing third as the 3-5 favorite in last Saturday’s Fountain of Youth. The champion 2-year-old male and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner has been installed at 15-1 on the morning line.
Derby Future Wager will run concurrently with the lone pool of the 2018 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. Win and Exacta betting are available for both pools and an Oaks/Derby Future Double has been added to the Future Wager betting menu. The Kentucky Oaks Future Wager concludes a half-hour later than the KDFW at 6:30 p.m.
