Gronkowski, who was withdrawn from Kentucky Derby (G1) consideration Monday after being treated for an infection, will be trained for the June 9 Belmont S. (G1) co-owner Phoenix Thoroughbreds Ltd. announced Tuesday.
"Gronkowski the horse is recovering very well from a small infection," said Tom Ludt, vice president of equine operations for Phoenix Thoroughbreds. "He's extremely strong and we are excited about getting him to the U.S. to compete at the Belmont."
Named for New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski, who purchased an interest in the horse last week, Gronkowski earned an invitation to the Kentucky Derby after earning the most points in the European Road to the Kentucky Derby series.
Based in England with trainer Jeremy Noseda, Gronkowski is being treated with antibiotics and is expected to return to the track next week.
