Gronkowski, a former Kentucky Derby (G1) contender, and other horses owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, have been transferred out of the yard of trainer Jeremy Noseda in England. Gronkowski will reportedly be moved to Chad Brown’s stable in New York.
The highest point earner in the European Road to the Kentucky Derby series, Gronkowski forfeited a chance at participating in last weekend’s Derby after developing an infection. His presence would have generated significant media coverage as a substantial share in the colt had previously been sold to his namesake, star New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
After his defection from Derby consideration, connections announced their intention of pointing the Gronkowski to the Belmont S. (G1), a decision that will be reviewed.
Noseda expressed his disappointment on Twitter, saying, “I am shocked and surprised by their decision. I have received no reason or explanation for their decision.”
A son of Lonhro, Gronkowski has won four of six starts, including the Burradon Stakes over a mile on an all-weather surface at Newcastle.
