In addition to $1 beer, local food trucks, and The Sheryl Rouse Band, attendees of Churchill Downs‘ Thursday, September 20, card have eight races on which to wager. Based on the morning-line prices of some of my “A” horses (see grid above), it could be a lucrative evening beneath the Twin Spires (or on TwinSpires.com where you can watch and wager if you’re not here for dollar brouhahas).
Brisnet.com handicapping reports for Churchill Downs!
Our best bet of the day from a price perspective is Momma Joann (#8), who drops to the $10,000 maiden claiming level looking not only for her first win but also the first win for her trainer, Timothy Austin, who’s a former assistant to D. Wayne Lukas.
At 10-1, this Cowboy Cal filly with Declan Cannon up figures to benefit from the class drop while trying a dirt route for the first time. A clean break from the outside could either give her a pressing trip outside Cassidy Avenue (#1) or maybe they just try to “steal” it. Either way, I think we’re getting the right price to find out.
Our best bet from a most likely winner standpoint is in the preceding race, as Alex’s Bourbon (#3) is our only lone “A” on the grid (see above). This filly had a speed-and-fade trip from the outside behind two next-out winners at Ellis Park and now draws back inside against maiden winners. She has a big chance to be lone speed and will be a single on all my multi-race wagers.
Have fun tonight!
