A slew of stakes runners earned triple-digit BRIS Speed ratings last week, topped by five-year-old Bavaro. The gray son of Freud was claimed in his first start of the year and returned February 18 to score a one-length victory in the Hollie Hughes Stakes at Aqueduct, good enough to be awarded a whopping 106 Speed figure.
Gulfstream Park produced the next two highest Speed rating earners in Blamed and Uno Mas Modelo. The duo each garnered a 105 number for winning the Royal Delta Stakes (G3) and Rough and Ready Stakes, respectively.
General George Stakes (G3) victor Uncontested (103), John B. Campbell Stakes scorer Bonus Points (102) and Barbara Fritchie Stakes (G3) heroine Late Night Pow Wow (100) shone bright at Laurel Park on February 17.
Belvoir Bay (101) ran her 2019 record to a perfect two-for-two in the Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita Park on February 16 while Mitchell Road (100) did the same at Fair Grounds to take his stakes bow in the Albert M. Stall Memorial.
