City of Light led a long list of runners who earned triple-digit BRIS Speed ratings last weekend in stakes.
The five-year-old bay rounded out his career in style on January 26 with a romping 5 3/4-length victory in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) at Gulfstream Park. Also a hero of last year’s Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), the son of Quality Road earned a 113 BRIS Speed figure and departed soon after his Pegasus win to take up stud duties at Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky.
This year saw the Pegasus World Cup joined by the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1). Bricks and Mortar prevailed by 2 1/2 lengths in that 1 3/16-mile affair to earn a 106 BRIS Speed rating.
Others of note among the 11 who earned triple-digit BRIS Speed ratings are multiple Grade 1 heroine Midnight Bisou, who was awarded 101 figure for her win in the Houston Ladies Classic (G3) in her four-year-old debut, and Bigger Picture, who garnered a 107 rating for recording his third consecutive win in the John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes (G3).
