The three-year-old Sally’s Curlin enters Thursday’s $300,000 Falls City (G2) at Churchill Downs having won four of her last five starts, the kind of form that could propel the Dale Romans trainee to victory against her elders in the 1 1/8-mile test.
With the exception of a blip in the Indiana Oaks (G3) in July, where she did no real running at all, Sally’s Curlin has otherwise been unstoppable since the addition of blinkers. That streak of success reached an early peak on November 2 when she wore down Mylady Curlin in taking the one-mile Chilukki (G3) by three parts of a length.
“She’s turning into a really nice filly,” Romans said. “She was extremely impressive in the Chilukki last out and she keeps improving. She’s only a three-year-old so time should only make her better. This race is a good spot for her and she’ll run a solid race.”
In addition to Mylady Curlin, a three-time stakes winner this year including the Allaire du Pont Distaff (G3), the Falls City has also attracted Go Google Yourself, who enters off back-to-back wins in the $125,000 Groupie Doll at Ellis Park and the Locust Grove (G3) at Churchill for trainer Paul McGee. Moonlit Garden, who’s unsuccessfully chased Go Google Yourself all season, is also entered.
Stepping up in class is Ratajkowksi, who’s won four of six against New York-bred company, and the sophomore Princess Causeway, a last-out winner of a seven-furlong, second-level allowance.
Later on the Thanksgiving Day card is the $175,000 Cardinal (G3) for older fillies and mares at nine furlongs on the turf. Starship Jubilee looms as a heavy favorite following victories in the E.P. Taylor (G1) and Canadian (G2) at Woodbine. Other notables include Notapradaprice and Limari.
