Influential sire Dynaformer was responsible for three of the seven sophomore
fillies in Saturday’s $150,000
Sands
Point S. (G2)
at Belmont Park, but it was pure quality, not quantity, that
enabled the 24-year-old son of the mighty Roberto to dominate the finish.
Farnsworth Stables’ GOZZIP GIRL (Dynaformer) seized the initiative early in a
paceless affair, dismissed a stern challenge from Bluegrass Princess (Dynaformer),
and comfortably held the late charge of Warm Shower (Dynaformer) by 1 1/2
lengths.

Well handled by Kent Desormeaux, Gozzip Girl pressed forward to take the lead
from Bluegrass Princess through an opening quarter in :25 2/5 on the yielding
inner turf. The 121-pound highweight inched one length clear while getting away
with a half-mile in :50 3/5, but Bluegrass Princess drew closer to apply
pressure through six furlongs in 1:15 3/5. At the top of the stretch, when
Bluegrass Princess launched her bid in earnest, Gozzip Girl kicked away and
maintained complete control en route to finishing nine furlongs in 1:51 1/5. The
3-2 second choice paid $5, $3.40 and $2.70.

“She was the best horse in the field, and she got it done,” Desormeaux said.
“I just let her find a rhythm and that rhythm was on the lead. She cornered for
home full of run.”

“We talked with Kent, and told him to just let her run where she was
comfortable,” winning trainer Tom Albertrani said. “She was just galloping
along. Once she made the lead, she was getting a little pressure back from John
Velazquez and Bluegrass Princess, but Kent took the initiative. She’s got such a
long stride and she wants a distance of ground. At the quarter-pole, I was
confident she would finish well.”

Warm Shower, ignored at 16-1 in the wagering in her stakes debut, maneuvered
her way through traffic and closed with a rush for second. She yielded $12 and
$6.90 for crossing the wire three-quarters of a length ahead of Bluegrass
Princess. The third-placer returned $4.40 at 5-1. The exacta was worth $62, and
the 4-3-1 trifecta totaled $260. Another length back in fourth came 6-5 favorite
Magical Affair (Giant’s Causeway), who was last early and wide on the far turn.
Fast Tigress (Hold That Tiger), Hopeful Image (Gulch) and Sapphire Sky (Sky
Mesa) completed the order of finish.

Now four-for-five on turf, Gozzip Girl previously captured the
Herecomesthebride S. (G3) and Coconut Grove S. at Gulfstream Park. The dark bay
tried Polytrack last time out in the Ashland S. (G1) at Keeneland, where she
stumbled at the start, but unleashed a furious rally that fell a neck shy of
Hooh Why (Cloud Hopping). Overall, she sports a mark of 7-4-1-0, $362,194.

Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Gozzip Girl went to
her current owners for $60,000 as a Keeneland September yearling. She is out of
the unraced Kingmambo mare Temperence Gift, whose latest progeny are an unnamed
juvenile filly by More Than Ready, a yearling colt by War Chant and a 2009 colt
by Aragorn (Ire). Gozzip Girl hails from the family of multiple Grade 1-winning
millionaire Brocco (Kris S.).

Albertrani is eyeing Grade 1 company next.

“Hopefully, we’ll get invited to the American Oaks (Invitational [G1] at
Hollywood Park) on July 5,” he said.
