A Maria’s Mon filly topped Tuesday’s opening session of the Ocala Breeders’
Sales Company’s 2009 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing
Age, bringing a final bid of $130,000 from Shim Racing. The Kentucky-bred was
sold by the Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent, consignment and is out
of multiple stakes queen Merit Wings (Silver Hawk). This is the female family of
2008 Canadian champion turf horse and Woodbine Mile (Can-G1) winner Rahy’s Attorney (Crown Attorney), and Grade 2
victress India (Hennessy)
Listed as Hip No. 40, the gray filly worked an eighth of a mile in a
co-bullet :10 1/5 at last Saturday’s Under Tack session.
The top three sellers Tuesday were fillies. Hip 260, a dark bay daughter of
Fusaichi Pegasus, registered the second highest-price of the session when
selling for $122,000 to Christina Jelm, agent for Eamon Cleary. Out of the
multiple Argentinean Group 3-placed Wandel (Arg) (Fitzcarraldo), the
Kentucky-bred filly is a half-sister to 2004 Argentinean champion three-year-old
filly Salt Champ (Arg) (Salt Lake), who captured the 2005 Santa Monica H. (G1)
in her lone U.S. start. The youngster was sold by Harris Training Center, agent,
and worked an eighth in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.
HITTHEJACKPOT (Grand Reward), a Kentucky-bred bay filly who sold as Hip 87,
commanded a $70,000 sales price from Frank Fletcher Racing. She hails from the
Pleasant Colony mare On the Town, who is a daughter of 1990 champion grass mare
Laugh and Be Merry (Erins Isle [Ire]). From the SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa),
agent, consignment, the juvenile miss worked a quarter-mile in :22 2/5 at the
Under Tack Show.
For the session, 146 horses sold for an aggregate $2,132,100, a decrease of
46.7 percent from last year when 192 head brought $4,003,200. The average dipped
30 percent, from $20,850 to $14,603, and the median was down 30.8 percent,
