Paul Pompa’s ZAKOCITY (Precocity) got out to the early lead in the $100,000
William Donald Schaefer H. (G3) at Pimlico on Saturday and never relinquished
that position. The Patrick Reynold’s trainee set fractions of
:24, :47 1/5, 1:10 4/5 and 1:36 before concluding the 1 1/8-mile contest in 1:49
under Jerry Bailey on a fast track. Chasing the four-year-old for the entirety
of the trip was Clays Awesome (Awesome Again), but the five-year-old gelding was
never able to get ahead of the winner.

Zakocity returned $6.80, $4.40 and $2.80 for his efforts at nearly 5-2,
leading exotics of $83.40 (exacta) and $390 (trifecta). Clays Awesome came home
2 1/2 lengths back to pay $9.60 and $4.80 at 11-1 while Royal Assault (Kris S.)
hit the wire another 2 3/4 lengths back in third to give $3.80 at 4-1.

Ouagadougou (Prized), Go Now (Go for Gin), Contante (Arg) (Interprete), Seven
Talents (Louis Quatorze) and 2-1 favorite Alumni Hall (A.P. Indy) rounded out
the order of finish.

This was Zakocity’s second graded score, previously winning the Discovery H.
(G3) at Aqueduct last year. His line now reads 27-5-5-7 with $645,970 in
earnings.

Zakocity was bred in Florida by John Franks and is out of the stakes-winning
mare Zakcat (Vilzak). He counts himself as a half-brother to an unnamed yearling
colt by Lost Soldier and a 2005 colt by El Corredor.
