Quarantined horses at Churchill Downs resume training

Last updated: 5/24/05 3:56 PM

Horses stabled in all three barns at Churchill Downs that were placed under
quarantine by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) because of confirmed cases
of equine herpes virus (EHV) are now able to resume limited training.

Horses trained by Ronny Werner in Barn 6 were cleared by the KDA on Tuesday. Horses in Barn 39, trained by Paul J.
McGee, Bill Cesare and Ron Ellis, were cleared on Saturday and returned to training that evening. Barn 38,
which houses horses trained by Steve Asmussen, resumed
training sessions on Monday.

Although the horses stabled in the three barns have been permitted to return
to the track during special training hours, they remain in quarantine and are
not allowed to mix with the rest of the horse population at Churchill Downs.

The training schedule for horses affected by the EHV quarantine includes late
morning sessions at 11 a.m. (EDT) on Monday and Tuesday. There will be evening training
sessions at
6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. No separate training is
planned on Friday due to the late post time.

Regular training at Churchill Downs is conducted daily from 6-10 a.m.
