MI SUENO (Pulpit) broke her maiden in smashing fashion when capturing the
Sorrento S. (G3) at Del Mar on August 7, and the Eric Guillot-trained filly will
attempt to make it two in a row in Saturday’s $300,000
Darley
Debutante S. (G1). She tops a field of 10 juvenile fillies in the
seven-furlong test.
Second in her first two starts against maiden special weight rivals at
Hollywood Park, the talented bay lass put it all together over the Polytrack
last time, rallying from midpack to the lead in midstretch with a dynamic turn
of foot, and Mi Sueno poured it on late, drawing clear to a 6 1/2-length
decision. The first foal out of Grade 1-winning millionaire Madcap Escapade
(Hennessy) sold for $1.7 million as a weanling at the 2007 Keeneland November
sale.
Michael Baze will return to the saddle aboard the likely favorite. Guillot
will also send out the uncoupled CHAMPAGNE D’ORO (Medaglia d’Oro), who exits a 2
1/4-length maiden special weight victory at Del Mar on August 9.
Doug O’Neill has a pair of uncoupled contenders in NECESSARY EVIL (Harlan’s
Holiday) and REPO (In Excess [Ire]). After winning her career bow impressively,
Necessary Evil rolled to a three-length victory over males in the Hollywood
Juvenile Championship (G3), and she’ll look to turn the tables on Mi Sueno after
finishing second in the Sorrento. Repo exits a sharp score over California-breds
in the C.T.B.A. S. at Del Mar.
IT TIZ (Tiznow) will step up to face winners for the first time following a
good-looking debut tally at Del Mar on August 16, and unbeaten BLIND LUCK
(Pollard’s Vision) will bring a two-race winning skein into her stakes bow.
